There are a few ways to level up your
lock picking. You can increase your skill through Footlockers,
Junk Boxes, Lockboxes, Locked Chests, Doors, and Useful Professions.

Footlockers are found in areas throughout World
of Warcraft. Most of the time you will have to fight your
way around to get to the Footlockers. I often found myself -
if i waited a few levels, above the level of the mobs. This
helps so you can easily cut through them while you increase your
skill. You always can ask a rogue trainer where to go next to
level your lock picking, but I have found it useful to put it all in
one place on this site.
Durnholde Keep in Hillsbrad Foothills has Footlockers that will
increase to 100
Windshear Crag in Stonetalon Mountains has Footlockers that will
increase to 100 (Caves are the best place)
Zoram Strand in Ashenvale has Footlockers that increase to 100
(Really long walk for Horde)
Lake Everstille in Redrige Mountains has Footlockers that
will increase to 100 (Good for Alliance - watch out for
the Elite monsters in the lake)
Menthinal Harbor in Wetlands has Footlockers that will increase
to 100-175 (Ally Territory - Footlockers are in the murloc
camps near the town)
Sar'theris Strand in Desolace has Footlockers that will increase
to 175+ (Lvl 30-40 area)
Angor Fortress in Badlands has Footlockers that will increase to
175+ (Lvl 30-40 area)
Searing Gorge has Footlockers that will increase to 200+ (Lvl
45-50 area)
Pool of Tears in Swamp of Sorrows has Footlockers that will
increase to 200+ (Easier to get to once you have a mount)
Lost Riggers Cove in Tanaris has Footlockers that will increase
to 250+ (Lvl 40-50 area)
Bay of Storms in Azshara has Footlockers that will increase to
250+ (Lvl 45-50 area)
Tyr's Hand in Eastern Plaguelands has Footlockers that will
increase your skill to 300+ (Mobs are elites 54-60 - Pick pocket
them and get some usefull Junk boxes to help skill up)
Feralfen Villiage in Zanger Marsh has Wicker Baskets that ill
increase your skill up to 330+ (Very easy to level up here mobs are
63-64 lvl)
Junk boxes will help level your skill up and can be found by pick
pocketing the mobs you are fighting.
Battered Junkbox will take your skill up to 25+
Worn Junkbox will take your skill up to 100+
Sturdy Junkbox will take your skill up to 175+
Heavy Junkbox will take your skill up to 250+
Strong Junkbox will take your skill up to 300+ (Drops flash powder
and other rogue poison ingredients)
Lock boxes drop randomly off of mobs. These need opening
often by other players in World of Warcraft. As a bonus they
will Level your skill up too.
Ornate Bronze Lockbox need a skill of 60 to open
Heavy Bronze Lockbox need a skill of 75 to open
Iron Lockbox need a skill of 85 to open
Heavy Iron Lockbox need a skill of 125 to open
Steel Lockbox need a skill of 180 to open
Reinforced Steel Lockbox need a skill of 225 to open
Mithril Lockbox need a skill of 225 to open
Thorium Lockbox need a skill of 225 to open
Eternium Lockbox need a skill of 225 to open
Khorium Lockbox need a skill of 325 to open
Chests throughout World of Warcraft will increase your skill if
they are locked. I will be adding these at a later time.
Doors to instances will level up your lockpicking but only a
couple of skill points at at time. Although these places have
keys to them, you can use a rogue just in case you leave yours in
the bank.
Gnomeregan need a skill of 150 to open
Scarlet Monastery need a skill of 175 to open
Searing Gorge Gate need a skill of 225 to open
Blackrock Depths need a skill of 280 to open
Scholomance need a skill of 280 to open
Dire Maul need skill of 300 to open
Engineers can make practice locks. Engineering is a great
profession for a rogue anyway - but do not choose engineering just
for the practice locks. These are only one time use - I will
have to find out more about these and post it.
I have found the easiest way to level up is by using the
footlockers. It take some time so I always try to go to these
places a few levels above the area - makes it much easier to slice
through the mobs.
I put this site up since the place I go to for all my info needs
(Thottbot) doesn't support the lockpicking part of the Rogue skills.
I also use Thottbot when I am stuck on a quest. It is a
very useful World of Warcraft database that tells you
