Why spend money on a DVR or TIVO when you can watch most shows for
free online!
Many
of the non cable channels have websites such as NBC,
ABC, FOX,
and CBS. The first three I
mentioned allow you to watch you favorite TV shows for free with
very little if any commercial interruption. ABC has you
download thier own player in order to watch their shows but it works
great. CBS is getting better about putting there shows online
to view free. I through out my DVR for two
reasons: One it was costing me money for the service and two
it was always cutting off the end of my shows. I felt the
latter was the networks way of getting you to watch there shows
right then and there instead of recording it onto a DVR and watching
it later. Even
Cable sites have some shows you can watch like FX,
and USA all
from your computer - which you can connect to your TV as long as you
have a video out from your video card. Watch a whole current
season in one weekend or catch up on that one episode you
missed.
Hulu.com is a great place that
allows you to watch all your favorite tv shows online for free.
Make sure you don't go to long because they only keep the shows
online for a bit before you cannot watch them any more.
TIVO Tips!
For those of us who have a tivo there are a few tricks you can do to
maximize your TIVO value.
30 second skip - Select, Play, Select, 3, 0, Select while your
watching your show.
Add channels manually - Enter a channel number manually,
Press Record, While recording, press Record to
cancel the recording. Repeat for each channel you want to add.
Go to Setup, then Channels You Watch, Place checkmarks next to each
of the channels you entered.
Add a network card to your Tivo and capture shows to DVD via a home
network and a dvdrw,
Navigate quickly with these remote shorcuts - 0 = Show the TiVo
cartoon introduction, 1 = Season Pass Manager, 2 = To Do List, 3 =
Search Using Wish lists, 4 = Search by Title, 5 = Browse by Channel,
6 = Browse by Time, 7 = Record Time/Channel, 8 = TiVo's Suggestions,
9 = Showcases, and TiVo = Now Playing
You can now set up TiVo recordings from your mobile phone or
computer.
Check the time - Select, Play, Select, 9, Select
Bypass the long progress bar - Select, Play, Select, Pause, Select
Use your Wishlist to record shows by actor and even use it to to
record by show and actor!
