Do you have old merchandise sitting around
your store? Have you been collecting certain items, and no
longer want to collect them? Need to clean house and do not
know what to do with all the "junk" you collected?
Have you been visiting yard sales too much? eBay is
the best way to sell off unwanted stuff.
Buying on eBay:
1) Search the item or items you want
to purchase on eBay. If you find yourself searching for the
same items you can easily save your searches and set them up to
email you the new items that are listed daily.
2) Search different categories - use
different ways to search for the item you are looking for.
eBay offers many different listing categories which means sellers
list items under different categories.
3) Some items come up for bid and some
are buy it now - consider the time on which you have to wait for the
item to end. Often if you can wait that little bit you might
be able to bid and get the item cheaper. Other times
you can use the buy it now option and save some time.
4) Beware of shipping cost and
shipping times - Some sellers will have a low price on the item and
gouge you on the shipping. If you see an item at a low price - check
out the method of shipping and how much it costs for shipping the
item to you. Also consider where the item is located.
That should tell you the time frame in which you will receive
your item. Also take a minute to look what country the
item is being shipped from. This could delay shipment or
communication.
5) Check out the feedback of the
seller. Remember the feedback is seller's reputation.
The higher the positive feedback the safer the transaction will be.

feedback.
6) Be aware of scams - you can
check eBay for the latest scams and tricks. If something is
too good to be true - usually it isn't.
7) Watch the item instead of bidding
first. Many make the mistake of putting a bid on the item
right away. Keep track of the item without bidding by adding
it to your watch list. You have to be signed in of course to
use this feature.
8) Bid on the item near the end of the
auction if you can. This will eliminate other eBayers driving
up the bid on the item. I always try to bid within the last 10
minutes of the auction.
9) If you are purchasing multiple
items from one seller as ahead of time if you can receive a discount
- you might save some money on the shipping.
10)
Make a best offer - if a seller allows a best offer - use it.
You might be surprised that the seller accepts your offer. I
always try to offer reasonable amounts. Be careful not to
offend by submitting a really low offer. You get a limited
number of chances to make an offer so make it count.
11)
If you cannot be there to bid on the auction use "Bid
Assistant". Bid assistant allows you to bid on a group of
items until you win one without being there. So if you were
looking for video game for your nephew you could use bid assistant
to group together 5 similar auctions for that game. You put in
your highest bid, allowing the computer to bid on the item for you.
12)
You can also put in the max bid on the item if the auction ends at a
time when you won't be home. The only flaw in this is that
someone might bid up the price on you - driving up the price of the
auction until you are no longer the high bidder. So be careful
when you use this tip.
13)
Be aware of other currency - the item listed might be from another
country and the currency could be listed for that country which
might be a higher price than if the item was listed in US dollars.
14) Use PayPal - PayPal
payment are easy to make and will give you a record of what you
spent on an auction. PayPal also offers some insurance against
fraud and damaged items. PayPal gives you up to 45 days to
dispute an item. I usually will open a dispute in Paypal after
a month has gone by if I have not received my item. PayPal
will also allow you to make multiple payments on auctions - so that
way you can focus on buying items. At the end of the day you
can choose pay now and it will list all the items that you need to
pay for.
15) Contact the seller - for any
clarification needed on the item, such as shipping, special markings
it should have, or shipping time. eBay allows you to contact
the seller and has a nice format so you can copy yourself on the
email and hide your email address from the seller.
16) Leave positive feedback if you
received your item and are overall happy with the item. If you
have left feedback and have not received any - you can always write
the seller an email. But give it some time - I only write
if it has been a couple weeks after I have left feedback. Some
sellers leave feedback at the end of the month.
17) eBay gives you the opportunity to
keep prices under your control. If you are in a remote area -
something might be hard to get or very costly. Use eBay to get
those items.
18) You can use eBay to grow your
inventory also. If you have a client that needs an item that
you normally do not sell, look on eBay for it so you can keep the
business and client happy.
19) Use eBay to grow your collection.
Often times you can find unique items on eBay that you cannot find
without driving 200 miles to get it.
20) Remember that you do not get
charged fees for buying on eBay.
21) Never purchase items outside of
eBay. It is against eBay policy and you will not be protected
if you buy outside of eBay. Keep all purchases in eBay.
